You’re not as Cuil as you think you are …

with 2 comments

I swore when I shifted focus with this damn site that I wouldn’t give much time to technology crap, but I can’t help myself.

Cuil, pronounced “cool” (yeah, I don’t get it either), launched today with much fanfare and big claims like the supposed fact that they index more pages than Google. So what’s the natural first step when you realize there’s a new search engine in the game? … Right, you search for yourself. Well, kudos to you, Cuil, you found my Twitter page, but somehow your relevancy algorithum didn’t find my personal Web site.

If you can’t find ME, how can I trust that you’ll find anything else less important to me?

Hey Netflix, F*&#%@! Figure it Out!

with one comment

Despite confirming the company’s hope to have instant streaming of movies available for Mac users in 2008 back in late January (!), Netflix is running out of damn time.

I’m sure someone will read this and have some smartass comment about me being a whining Mac user, but come on … if you’re going to make a service for *paying* customers, plan ahead. It’s like designing a Web site that won’t work with Firefox. It’s just plain stupid AND I should get a discount on my monthly service since they’re incapable of providing me with everything I’m supposedly paying for.

Nice iPhone 2.0 Tip

with 3 comments

photo

Spent a nice couple of hours poking and playing around with the phone, even though I’ve had the updated software for a while. I happened to stumble on this nice little tip this afternoon and it worked perfectly. Try it out. It’s great for taking any photo, from any source online and making it your wallpaper.

iPhone apps: one suggestion

without comments

photo

Whenever I download an update for an iPhone app it moves it from its orignal location, in this case my home screen, and puts it in the next available spot.

Now, I’m just sayin’, but I did put it on my home sceen because I wanted it there to begin with and, if you’re “updating”, shouldn’t the update take hold without changing my preferences?

Test of the Wordpress App for the iPhone

without comments

photo

Just testing the iPhone Wordpress app. It’s been a breeze thus far. I sailed right through the setup and am publishing this with relative ease. Kind of interested to see how the auto-correction function screws with people’s perception of how well or poorly I write. ;)

iPhone Update - FAILED and Bricked My Phone

without comments

It’s amazing that after all this “preparation” and time for planning that Apple still couldn’t get their shit together and provide a seamless upgrade for their original customers of the 2.5G phone. I and many others are seeing this when trying to update this morning:

Lovely. It’s bad enough that I wasn’t planning to buy the 3G version, but after this I may be considering a Blackberry. Enough is enough.

The work from home debate continues …

Internet speed at home …

Internet speed at work …

While it may seem like this stuff doesn’t matter, it does.

Hmmm.
